Discontinued golf development昆明梁王山生态运动休闲旅游区高尔夫球场
Liangwang Mountain was planned as a 36-hole golf destination beside Hengchong Reservoir in Majinpu. Eighteen holes were described as substantially complete when the development was shut down.4
The development
An ambitious golf development beside Hengchong Reservoir.
Construction took place between June 2009 and June 2011 within the Liangwang Mountain ecological sports and leisure tourism project. The 20 June 2012 account records that the course was built without authorisation and that work continued after the national clean-up notice.1
The development occupied 1,522.75 mu, including 453.5 mu of cultivated land. Land authorities imposed a fine of RMB 10.1322 million. By the time the account was published, Yunnan had already shut the development down.1
The wider plans
A Yunnan Fangwang report reproduced on 3 April 2015 places the project beside Hengchong Reservoir (横冲水库) in Majinpu, near Liangwang Mountain’s main peak. It describes an 18-hole course as substantially completed when it was shut down, within a scheme planned for 36 holes.4
The proposed development combined golf and villas with an international conference centre, a five-star hotel, corporate clubhouses, tennis and mountain walking. A permanent Kunming venue for the China Economists 50 Forum was among its ambitions.4
The same report identifies the developer as 云南星河旅游资源开发有限责任公司. Citing company-registration information, it reports historical stakes of 50% for Beijing Xinyuan Real Estate and 10% for Lenovo Holdings. These historical shareholdings accompanied a scheme whose conference, hotel and sports facilities remained proposals in the account.4
The business figures also shared a personal interest in golf. In a 2013 first-person interview, Liu Chuanzhi credited Lin Rongqiang of Xinyuan Holdings with bringing him back to the sport and introducing a coach.8
Hengchong Reservoir · Views published in 2020
The reservoir landscape continued to attract visitors after the golf development ended. A July 2020 travel article described the lawns beside Hengchong Reservoir as an unopened golf site used for picnics and family outings. A 2021 recreation roundup again featured the area as an unopened golf/football ground, with photographs credited to a RedNote contributor.67
The photographs published with the 2020 article show shaped grass beside the water, wooded hills and corridors framed by exposed reddish earth.
