Yunnan golf FAQs

What to expect when arranging a round through Play Yunnan Golf.

What is included in the golf price?

Most listed golf rates include the green fee, shared golf cart, caddie fee and one bottle of water. At Jialize Wetland, the RMB 280–580 self-pull bag walking rate does not include a cart or caddie; the RMB 500–880 cart-and-caddie option includes both.

The price does not include caddie gratuities, transportation to and from the golf course, food and beverages, equipment rental, or other personal purchases made at the club.

At Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, oxygen canisters are also included.

Can international visitors book and play golf in Yunnan?

Yes. International golfers are welcome at the courses listed on our site and receive the same rates and playing conditions as Chinese and local guests. There are no additional booking fees or surcharges based on nationality.

Most golf operations are straightforward for international visitors. However, some caddies speak only basic English. This generally does not affect the round, although communication may occasionally be limited.

Can I book as a single golfer?

Yes. Single golfers are common in Yunnan, and in most cases you can play without being paired with another group.

During particularly busy periods, a golf course may occasionally combine players in order to manage tee-time availability, but this is not normally required.

There is generally no additional charge for playing as a single golfer. The exceptions are Hot Spring Golf Course and Jialize Championship, where an additional single-rider cart fee applies because the standard rate is based on two golfers sharing a cart.

Are caddies compulsory, and how much should I tip?

Caddies are mandatory at all courses in China, with the exception of the Jialize Wetland Course, where golfers may play without a caddie. No extra single-rider cart fee applies at Jialize Wetland.

The customary tip is RMB 200 per golfer, per caddie, paid directly to your caddie after the round.

At Jialize Wetland and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the tip is RMB 200 for one caddie serving one golfer (1:1), or RMB 300 for one caddie serving two golfers (1:2).

How far in advance should I book my tee time?

For most of the year, booking approximately one week in advance is normally sufficient to secure your preferred tee time.

During the summer months, morning tee times are particularly popular and may become fully booked earlier. Golfers who prefer an early start during this period are advised to book as far in advance as possible.

Can I rent golf clubs in Yunnan?

Yes. Rental clubs are available at most golf courses in Yunnan, making it easy to play without travelling with your own equipment.

A modern set of rental clubs typically costs approximately RMB 300 per round.

Availability can vary between courses, so golfers requiring rental clubs should request them when making their booking.

At Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, rental sets cost RMB 200, RMB 400 or RMB 600, depending on the quality and age of the clubs.

What is the best time of year to play golf in Yunnan?

For a trip centred on Kunming, March to May and October to November offer a good balance of weather and playing conditions. November to April is generally drier. May to October is peak golf season in Yunnan: the courses are greener, and rain often comes in short, heavy showers rather than lasting all day. May and October can be changeable as the seasons shift.

Conditions in Qujing, Dali, Lijiang and Tengchong vary with location and elevation. See our Yunnan golf weather and seasonal guide before choosing your dates.

What happens if weather conditions make the course unplayable?

Yunnan enjoys favourable golfing conditions for much of the year, and complete course closures due to weather are extremely uncommon.

In the unlikely event that weather or course conditions make play impossible, we will arrange an alternative tee time within the following days, subject to course availability.

How do I get from my hotel to the golf course?

Private transfers between your hotel and the golf course can be arranged for an additional charge. This is often the most convenient option for international visitors, particularly for courses located outside central Kunming.

If you prefer to arrange your own transportation, the Chinese course name and address are provided on our website and can be used with a taxi, ride-hailing service or private driver.
