The first long-hole test
The 3rd is a 430-yard par 5 from the blue and white tees and asks for a well-judged opening shot. A strong drive is useful, but too much length can run into the point where the fairway begins to pinch in, so the ideal tee ball is one that secures position without running out of room. The second shot then plays almost blind into a green guarded by several grass mounds and grass bunkers, making distance control and the right line into the target more important than simply chasing extra yards.
